Overlooking Russell

Russell, or Kororareka as it was previously known, is one of the earliest settlements in New Zealand (Aotearoa) and has a rich history.

The land was inhabited by New Zealand’s own indigenous people, the Maori prior to Captain Cook’s visit in 1769.

The town’s Victorian atmosphere is very evident when you stroll around the town waterfront and many historic buildings have been well taken care of. For example, two of New Zealand's historic buildings is Christ Church (1836) and Pompallier House (1841).

Just a quick drive or generous walk from Russell Township, high on Te Maiki Hill is the infamous flagstaff and from here the views across the bay are heavenly.

The Treaty Grounds of Waitangi are across the water and is another truely historic site.

Whether you are planning to escape the city hustle and find a fantastic place to relax and unwind, tour the bay, hang out at the beach or take one of the many cruises around the islands, then you are in for a real treat and Russell awaits you.
